The Permanent Way Institution is a company limited by guarantee and registered at Companies House. The incorporation means that copyright laws protect the name of the Institution. The Institution continues to promote and encourage the acquisition of technical and general knowledge in relation to the design, construction and maintenance of every type of rail track, including Railways, Tramways, Docks and Harbours and by the many and varied infrastructure works. It draws its membership from all personnel involved in the maintenance, supply and renewal of the infrastructure to Railways and Rail Related Authorities, and encompasses everyone from trackmen to civil engineers and consultants. |
Objectives
The objectives of the Permanent Way Institution are to advance the knowledge of Railway Civil Engineering, in particular Track and Infrastructure and to promote, spread and exchange such knowledge amongst those who work for Railways and Rail Systems worldwide and those who work for the supply and service companies which encompasses all the disciplines relating to the industry.
Continuing Professional Development
The Permanent Way Institution promotes and encourages Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by approving the papers presented at National Conferences and Section Meetings when they meet the required standard.
